A studio built on the cut
How the studio thinks
Every discipline here runs on the same instinct: the good version is in there, and nobody knows where yet. What matters, what drags, what needs to be cut, and what system makes the next version easier. Editing rhythm informs design. Film references sharpen interfaces. Production constraints shape cleaner software.

The founder
Film Grain Brain was founded by Bryan Houlihan-Johnson, a filmmaker, video editor, creative designer, and software-minded builder.
The studio carries his editing instinct into everything it touches: think visually, cut precisely, and solve around the edges. Nothing here arrives finished. It gets found. Make a version, learn what it’s telling you, cut toward the better one, until the piece knows what it is.
Finding the way is the work.
Columbus-grounded, internet-native
Columbus is home base. The studio plugs into remote teams, agencies, and productions anywhere.
